Business valuations in Sydney and New South Wales

We prepare independent business valuations for Sydney and New South Wales clients, with a director covering NSW and VIC and site attendance arranged where the engagement requires it.

Most valuation work is document-driven and does not require the valuer to be in the same city. What matters is accreditation, independence and whether the report withstands review — and our reports are prepared and signed by Certified Practising Valuers of the Australian Valuers Institute, accepted nationally.

The local business base

A metropolitan market with metropolitan multiples

Sydney carries the deepest professional services, financial services and technology base in the country, alongside substantial health, construction, logistics and manufacturing sectors across Western Sydney and the outer industrial corridors. Business sizes skew larger than in South East Queensland, and the buyer pool — including private equity and corporate acquirers — is deeper.

That depth shows up in the valuation. Comparable evidence is more plentiful, businesses more often carry genuine management depth below the owner, and larger businesses attract higher multiples than the SME bands suggest. Sydney rent and wage structures also mean normalisation of premises and remuneration costs carries more weight than it does further north.

Local factors

How a Sydney engagement works

01

Document-driven, not location-driven

The analysis runs on financial statements, contracts, registers and structure documents. Those arrive securely by file transfer, and the work is identical whether the business is in Milton or Macquarie Park.

02

Attendance where it matters

Where plant, stock or property form a material part of value, we attend. Our director covering NSW and VIC handles southern engagements, and travel is quoted inside the fixed fee before the engagement starts.

03

National accreditation and acceptance

Reports are signed by Certified Practising Valuers of the Australian Valuers Institute and are prepared to ATO market value substantiation guidance and Federal Circuit and Family Court expert evidence rules — both national frameworks.

Working with us from Sydney

How an engagement in Sydney runs

Sydney and New South Wales engagements run remotely by default, with documents exchanged securely and calls scheduled at your convenience. Where inspection is required, attendance is arranged and travel is included in the fixed fee.

Our valuation office is at 4/144 Edward Street, Brisbane City. We do not maintain a shopfront in every location we serve — a valuation is not a service that benefits from one, and pretending otherwise would be the first thing an opposing expert questioned.

Book a free scoping call →
  1. Free scoping call Fifteen minutes to establish the purpose, the standard of value, the entities involved and your deadline. You get a fixed fee in writing the same day.
  2. Records sent electronically Financial statements, tax returns, management accounts, the asset register and contracts. One consolidated request, not a drip feed.
  3. Site attendance where it matters NSW engagements run remotely by default. Where plant, stock or property must be inspected, attendance is arranged and travel is quoted inside the fixed fee.
  4. Report and debrief The signed valuation, then a call to walk through the conclusion, the assumptions, and what would change the number.

Local questions

Valuing a business in Sydney

General questions on cost, timing and documents are on the full FAQ page.

Ask a valuer

Yes. Valuation is document-driven, our accreditations are national, and one of our directors covers NSW and VIC. What determines whether a report is accepted by the ATO, a court or a lender is the accreditation of the valuer and the quality of the reasoning, not the postcode of the office.

Yes, where it is prepared to the applicable expert evidence rules. Family law matters run in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, which is a national jurisdiction with national practice directions. For state court matters the report is prepared to the relevant rules, and our valuers have extensive expert witness experience.

Where the engagement requires it — significant plant, stock, fit-out or property. Attendance is arranged in advance and the travel is included in the fixed fee quoted before we start, so there is no variation later.

The sector bands are national, but Sydney businesses are on average larger and more often have real management depth, both of which support the upper part of a band. Comparable evidence is also more plentiful. What does not change is the analysis: earnings normalised, risk assessed, multiple derived and cross-checked.

Documents are exchanged securely, the scoping call and any follow-up conversations happen by phone or video, and requisitions are made in writing. In practice most of our interstate clients find it no different from working with a valuer down the road.
